Former Oakleaf High School assistant football coach Ben White was arrested Thursday and accused of inappropriately touching students at the school.

Four students were involved in a gun-in-school incident Wednesday at Oakleaf High School, and two of them are now facing a felony charge, Clay County District Schools Police Chief Kenneth Wagner said.

More than one student is in school police custody Wednesday after a firearm was found on the campus of Oakleaf High School, according to a message sent to parents by Principal Matthew Boyack.

A high school in Clay County had to be evacuated Tuesday morning after an unknown smell wafted through the campus, officials said. The district later discovered the smell was related to a septic leak.

The driver killed in a crash Monday on Argyle Forest Boulevard has been identified as 17-year-old David Mustafa, a rising senior at Oakleaf High School.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – An Oakleaf High School freshman told News4Jax her first day of classes went pretty smoothly. She didn’t realize until later that her first day inside the school would also likely be her last as a freshman. “It was scary for us, and it was also upsetting because the school never contacted us.”As of Thursday, the Clay County school district was the only large Jacksonville-area school district not publicly disclosing COVID-19 data for students. The Duval County school district has a school-by-school breakdown of COVID-19 cases. The Nassau County School District is posting reported cases to its website.

Tuesday was also the first day of school in Clay County and at Oakleaf High School, coach Frank Garis said he knew his guys would be excited for practice this afternoon. Yesterday, the first day is always hectic, but it is good to have the kids around. I think the kids are excited [to be back in class] but more excited today because they are back in school and seen some people they havent seen in five or six months. The Knights, just like many other high school football teams here in Florida were permitted to begin holding their first practices of the year on Monday. With such a short time frame to prepare for their first game, Garis said he wants to keep things simple for his players.

Jaeda McFarland is on the softball team at Oakleaf High School. Jaeda broke the school home run record last year as a junior and has signed to play Division 1 softball for the University of Maryland. She is a member of the Spanish Honor Society, the National Technical Honor Society and Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society. Jaeda has volunteered at Elevate Church and has contributed to several fundraisers held for Oakleaf High School. She currently has a 4.2 GPA.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. - The family of an Oakleaf High School senior who was involved in a serious crash said a surgery on the 18-year-old's right leg was successful. After the crash, Richey has undergone five surgeries to date: one to amputate his left leg and several more to save his right leg. It was almost like an eight-hour surgery on his right leg. It was touch and go with the right leg," Elder said. They had to take muscle from his left side and skin from his thigh to actually fix the hole in the right leg," Elder said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A criminal investigation is still underway into a deadly crash last month near Oakleaf High School, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office confirmed. She is the mother of 18-year-old Tajuan Richey, who was one of the teenage boys injured in the crash. Elder said her son will likely be transferred to a hospital in Gainesville for the other surgery. Elder said her son has started to talk about the crash is starting to talk about the crash that left his best friend, Moss, dead. Their efforts started five days ago with a simple post to social media asking for supplies for Student Ambassadors for Bahamas Relief. "There's still more help needed," said Sonia Belgrave, math specialist at Oakleaf High School. "The more you give, the more you receive, and we're blessed to be a blessing." The school has partnered with Cisco during the donation process and the company has paid some of the expense for several donations.

Keondre Moss was a junior at Oakleaf High School, where students were in mourning Tuesday. Part of a tree, car debris and a growing memorial is all that's left behind at the crash site. Hearts are heavy among Oakleaf High School students after three of their schoolmates were involved in a violent crash. One of them was killed.
