Glynn County Fire Rescue said the pup, named Brooks, decided to chase a few pelicans. Unfortunately, those pelicans were half a mile off shore. Members from the water rescue team were able to locate Brooks in St. Simon’s shipping channel and bring him safely back to shore. Brooks and his owner are both safe and appreciative!

Fire and Rescue said the vessel struck one of the pilings under the Buckman and capsized north of the bridge. As of 7:15 p.m., the boater had not been located, according to Eric Prosswimmer, spokesperson for JFRD. Crews were towing the boat to an area near NAS Jacksonville. The investigation was being turned over to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The fire was put out quickly so the home will not be a total loss, but the Red Cross is assisting the family.

The police department said the red-tailed hawk was eating a meal when it was injured. Luckily for the large bird, investigator Lowrey’s “unique talents” were put to use and he handled the hawk safely and transported it to a rehabilitation center so it can recover, the department said. The Facebook post did not include the investigator’s first name. Investigator Lowrey is also attached to GCPD’s Special Response Team.
