JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The traffic light at San Jose Boulevard and St. Augustine Road has a sign that clearly reads, "No turn on red." But that's not stopping numerous cars from cross the line -- and endangering pedestrians.
"I think people don't take driving seriously enough," driver Tricia Hines said. "I think there are a lot of responsibilities attached to it. I think people just view it too causally."
There's nearly always traffic at the intersection, not to mention people trying to cross the road. But there are drivers who say it's pointless to try to stop people from turning.
"I see a lot of people go through it," driver Leon Brown said. "I sometimes ask myself, 'Why have the sign there?'"
It's there and illuminated when pedestrians have the right-of-way.
Drivers say the problem is the light is not always turned on. The light is only triggered when a pedestrian pushes the button to cross the street.
Channel 4 safety expert Ken Jefferson says it's important for drivers to pay attention.
"When they're trying to make a right turn on red, generally they are looking left to see the traffic coming or not coming, and then they turn blindly a lot of times without checking again on the right to see if anyone is crossing the street," Jefferson said.
Some people say they're hopeful the law will be better enforced, arguing the light helps create a level of safety.
"I think it's a protective move," Hines said. "It's a busy intersection, lot of accidents, and I think it's a good idea."
An idea some drivers are choosing to ignore.
