GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – The eastbound lane of the Shands Bridge reopened late Wednesday afternoon after being closed for several hours due to maintenance repairs, the Florida Department of Transportation said.
About 12:40 p.m., FDOT announced that the eastbound lane was closed as bridge maintenance crews worked to repair portions of a grate on the bridge.

The eastbound lane reopened just before 5 p.m., according to FDOT, but the hourslong closure backed up traffic for miles in both directions.
Drivers were advised to use the Buckman Bridge as an alternate route.
