Zoo Parkway reopens six hours after gas truck overturned

Tanker truck spilled fuel; driver not seriously hurt

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An overturned Gate Petroleum tanker blocked all westbound lanes of Zoo Parkway near Eastport Road from before dawn Friday to nearly 11:30 a.m.

According to Gate Petroleum, the truck driver was not seriously injured in the crash that kept traffic detoured for about six hours.

Firefighters said the hazmat team was dispatched because of fuel leaking from the tanker. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department helped contain the fuel, but had no preliminary estimate on the amount of fuel that leaked.

It took two tow trucks to right the truck and remove it.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office detoured traffic onto Eastport Road until the accident was cleared.

"We're thankful that no one was seriously injured and these types of incidents are uncommon for us," a Gate spokesperson said in a statement."
