According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of the Mack truck was traveling west on Otis Road and failed to observe a posted stop sign at the U.S. 301 intersection. Troopers said the driver veered to the right, traveled onto the center grass median and eventually overturned onto its left side, sliding across the southbound lanes of U.S. 301.

The roof of the truck and the top of the trailer then collided with a guardrail, troopers said.

The driver, Michael Haworth, died at the scene, troopers said.

According to the Highway Patrol report, it's unknown whether he was wearing a seat belt.
