Palatka man struck by garbage truck on US-17 dies

FHP investigates fatal crash early Thursday morning.

PALATKA, Fla – A pedestrian was killed early Thursday morning when he was struck by a garbage truck on U.S. 17 south of County Road 216 in Putnam County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the Mack dump truck was heading south about 6 a.m. when it struck 32-year-old Eric Edenfield, who was walking south in a southbound travel lane. Edenfield, who lived in Palatka, died at the scene.

According to the FHP report, the driver of the truck will not face charges.

All southbound lanes of U.S. 17 were blocked at Comfort Road while FHP troopers investigated the crash.
