According to police, the civilian car lost control, possibly because it had just started raining, struck the guardrail and bounced back onto the highway and hit the cruiser.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, there were four secondary crashes, including one involving a big rig and a car near Wilson Boulevard that resulted in three injuries. According to the FHP website, all northbound traffic was being diverted off I-295 at 103rd Street.
