1 person killed, another hurt in crash at Parental Home, Dean roads

Crash occurred in Jacksonville’s Sans Souci area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One person is dead and another is hurt after a crash Saturday in Jacksonville’s Sans Souci area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Jacksonville firefighters responded to the deadly crash at Parental Home and Dean roads.

The Sheriff’s Office said a silver sedan was heading south on Parental Home Road before it left the road at Dean Road. Police said the sedan went through a plastic fence, clipped a large tree and flipped on its side.

Police said the driver, who was rescued from the car, had non-life-threatening injuries. JSO said the passenger of the car, who was his girlfriend, died at the scene.

There have been several fatal crashes in Duval County and surrounding areas this week.

A lieutenant with JSO’s traffic homicide unit has a message for drivers.

“Slow down, pay attention,” Lt. Rich Buoye said. “This is my first week in the traffic homicide unit, and I’ve been out here way too much. It’s ridiculous. I should not be coming out this much. And obviously, no one is doing this intentionally. This is just people speeding and not paying attention.”

Officers said they believe speeding was a factor in the accident, but the driver said he was not speeding.
