JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and Florida Highway Patrol responded to a deadly crash Monday afternoon on I-10 westbound at Lane Avenue.
The crash involved a flipped trash truck and there was a fuel leak. It’s caused delays for hours along I-10.
According to FHP, the 55-year-old truck driver, a Ponte Vedra Beach resident, died in the crash. Troopers said the truck struck a guardrail, overturned and hit a pole in the median.
The trash truck was removed from the scene at approximately 8 p.m., and crews began to clear the area. All lanes reopened to traffic shortly after 830 p.m.
“It appears something sticking out the top left front end of the truck,” noted Jacksonville mechanic Aaron Nelson. “It’s hard to say without examining the suspension, but it appears something on the suspension broke.”
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
