67-year-old bicyclist killed in hit-and-run in Orange Park: FHP

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – A 67-year-old man was struck while riding a bicycle on Miller Street in Orange Park, and the driver who hit him left the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a 27-year-old man from Middleburg was headed south on Miller Street near Filmore Lane just after 9 p.m. and was behind the bicyclist when he struck the bicycle, knocking the man onto the street.

According to troopers, the man kept driving south on Miller Street and left the scene before he was stopped by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at College Drive and Jefferson Ave -- more than 5 miles away.

The pick-up truck driver was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt. The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, died from his injuries.
