47-year-old bicyclist hit, killed by pickup truck on US 17 in Fleming Island: FHP

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – A bicyclist was struck by a pickup truck Monday evening on U.S. 17 near Clay Street in Fleming Island, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The 47-year-old Fleming Island man riding the bike was not wearing a helmet and died from his injuries, the report said.

Troopers said a 2010 Toyota pickup truck, driven by a 20-year-old Green Cove Springs man, was headed south on U.S. 17 in the left lane around 6:45 p.m., and the bicyclist “was riding across all three southbound lanes” in front of the truck.

According to the report, the front of the truck hit the bicyclist from behind, causing fatal injuries.

The driver of the pickup was not injured.
