JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 50-year-old man died Wednesday morning in a crash on the Dames Point Bridge that shut down all lanes of I-295 northbound for hours during the heart of rush hour.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the man, who is from Hialeah, hit a concrete barrier wall with his car, which ended up disabled in the left lane, facing the center barrier.
A pickup truck headed northbound T-boned the car on the driver’s side, trapping the driver inside the car with critical injuries. The driver later died.
The 69-year-old driver of the pickup truck and his 43-year-old passenger, both from Jacksonville Beach, were not hurt.
All three men involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, according to the crash report.
The deadly crash closed all northbound lanes of I-295 Wednesday morning, starting at about 5 a.m. All lanes reopened around 9:30 a.m.
