The Florida Highway Patrol report said the deputy and an 18-year-old driver in a car were headed south on I-95 when the driver didn’t see the deputy -- with his emergency lights on -- trying to enter the median break. The car hit the left side of the motorcycle, knocking the deputy to the ground.
The 39-year-old deputy, who was wearing a helmet, suffered serious injuries and was taken to HCA Memorial in Jacksonville for treatment. He is expected to be OK.
The driver stayed at the scene and was being questioned. He was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt, the report said.
