Diaz-Ortiz, who only had minor injuries, ran from the crash scene into the woods nearby, FHP said. He was later caught and taken to the Columbia County Jail on charges of vehicular homicide, driving without a license and leaving the scene of a crash with a death.

The driver and passenger of the pickup truck Diaz-Ortiz hit were not hurt.

A second passenger in Diaz-Ortiz’s truck suffered serious injuries. That passenger’s age was not listed.
