NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – A 32-year-old Hilliard man died Sunday when an SUV overturned in a crash on U.S. 1, flipped into a nearby parking lot and hit the man who was standing near a parked, empty Subaru, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
According to the FHP report, a 27-year-old man from Douglas, Georgia, was headed north on U.S. 1 near North Kings Road around 6 p.m. Sunday.

Troopers said the man’s Chevrolet HHR veered off the road and began to flip on the right shoulder. As the SUV overturned, it hit an empty red Subaru and a pedestrian in a nearby parking lot, FHP said.
The pedestrian died from his injuries.
The driver of the SUV was not hurt. He was wearing a seat belt, according to FHP.
