JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A week after a water main break forced the closure of four lanes of the heavily traveled San Jose Boulevard, JEA says the work is likely to continue through the week and into the weekend.

Two inside southbound travel lanes from Plummer Cove Road to Old River Road and two inside northbound travel lanes from Ricky Road to Claire Lane must remain closed throughout the water main repair work, JEA said.

The utility anticipates that work will continue through the week and into next weekend.

The repair work hit a snag because of ground saturation that makes it unsafe for workers to continue the excavation without more equipment.

As crews work to repair a water main 25 feet below street level, they will need to bring in a crane to help crews fortify the excavation and focus on the repair.

During the repairs, drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes and avoid the area when possible.

Drivers who must use that stretch of San Jose Boulevard are asked to observe all construction signs, detours and general directions provided by the crews working on-site.
