Wildfire smoke could be issue for drivers on US 17 in Putnam County: FHP

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is monitoring wildfire activity near 602 Hickory Nut Trail in Putnam County.

Troopers warned that the resulting smoke could affect visibility for drivers on U.S. Highway 17.

Authorities are cautioning motorists to drive carefully in the affected areas, particularly from Dunns Creek Bridge to County Road 309.

Visibility may worsen due to smoke and fog-like conditions, especially during the night and early morning hours.

Drivers are advised to reduce their speed to avoid collisions and to use low-beam headlights to better adapt to the changing conditions.

Smoke warning signs have been placed along U.S. Highway 17 to alert drivers to the potential hazards.

All drivers are encouraged to stay alert and take extra precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road.
