FDOT designates new ‘no pass’ zone on State Road A1A in South Ponte Vedra Beach to reduce fatalities and injuries

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Drivers will soon need to pay close attention when traveling south on State Road A1A in South Ponte Vedra Beach.

The Florida Department of Transportation is creating a new “no pass” zone.

It’s part of FDOT’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety across the state.

The new striping for the “no pass” zone is set to be installed on the southbound side of State Road A1A, covering a 1-mile stretch from the Guana Tolomato Matanzas South Beach Access to Yellow Bill Lane.

Linda Weigman was visiting the area from Minnesota during the winter months and she said it’s a good idea.

“There are a lot of people walking around where we live crossing the street, we live off of A1A and there are lots of people crossing the street and lots of traffic going very fast,” Weigman said.

She hopes it gets people to slow down.

The installation is scheduled for the week of Jan. 13, 2025.

FDOT said the project aligns with its Target Zero statewide safety initiative, which aims to reduce fatalities and serious injuries on Florida’s roadways to zero.
