Jacksonville Fire and Rescue said the one-vehicle crash was called in just before 2 p.m.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Amell lost control and crashed into the concrete pole. He died at the scene.

Police said it's unclear of Amell had a medical issue that led to the crash.

The crash damaged the power pole, knocking out power for some businesses and closed all lanes of University Boulevard West from the Suwanee/Graywood intersection to Minuteman Lane, the Sheriff's Office said.

Police said the pole will have to be replaced.

All lanes of University Boulevard West reopened about 4:30 p.m., except for one eastbound lane, which was blocked for JEA crews.
