DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE |
Angie Nixon
Occupation: Executive Director- Florida For All
Age: 40
Family: 2 Daughters
Education: BA- Political Science, University of Florida
Political experience: Current Florida State Representative, District 13
What do you see as the top three issues in this race, and how do you plan to address them?
Florida’s Unaffordability Crisis- I plan to continue to work to close the corporate tax loopholes that could garner the state over $250 million a year and be used to address the housing crisis in our state. I also plan to refile legislation to assist homeowners with their property insurance and parents with cost of early learning childcare.
Attacks on traditional Public Education- We are currently subsidizing the elite class of millionaires and billionaires in our state with vouchers for their children’s private corporate school education, meanwhile our public schools are at risk of closing and we aren’t paying our teachers a living wage. I will continue to be a fierce advocate and raise awareness and get the community involved to pressure those in leadership to make the necessary changes.
Our community is so divided politically at this time. I want to work to help bridge the gap and bring us together for the greater good of the community as a whole.
How can you help voters in a way that others running for this office cannot?
Our office will continue to take the needs of our constituents seriously. We won’t avoid conversations or avoid doing the work in the community. This is the total opposite of my opponent who’s a career politician beholden to special interest groups.
What would you hope to be remembered for accomplishing after serving in this office?
That I fought hard for the people of Florida and I always had their back and pushed to improve their quality of life.
