The incumbent District 1 commissioner, Bill Pickens, is not on the ballot for re-election this year. J.R. Newbold III won the Republican primary in August. While there are no Democrats in the race, a write-in candidate did qualify for the general election, so the August primary was only open to Republican voters.
News4Jax sent a questionnaire to each candidate asking about their background and their views on several issues, though neither canddiate in the primary responded to the questionnaire.
