The incumbent District 5 commissioner, Paul Adamczyk, ran for superintendent of schools, leaving the commission seat open. Walton Pellicer won a three-way Republican primary in August. There were no Democrats entered in the race, though there had been a write-in candidate who qualified. That write-in candidate withdrew from the race following the primary, resulting in Pellicer’s election to the office.
News4Jax sent a questionnaire to each candidate asking about their background and their views on several issues. Scroll down to read the responses of those seeking your vote in their own words.

What do you see as the top three issues in this race, and how do you plan to address them?
First, I would like to work with our chamber of commerce to bring clean industry jobs to Putnam County. I will reach out to our municipalities to help create a stronger working environment. Thereby expanding our taxable base, and lightening the tax burden of homeowners across our County. In addition, I wish to expand the fresh and grey water system in East Palatka. Which will relieve the septic systems along the river to protect one of Putnam County’s greatest resources. To conclude, building and zoning is a department that has several issues that need to be addressed. As growth approaches building and zoning will be under pressure, and is severely under staffed. This needs to be a priority for the board of commissioners to make the changes within that department to accommodate the growth coming our way. Thereby achieving success for all of Putnam County.
How can you help voters in a way that others running for this office cannot?
I have been a lifelong resident of Putnam County and have served as Commissioner of District 5 from 2012-2016. This has given me experience in all areas of the Putnam County Government. I am eager to hit the ground running and I know who to talk to, not only here in Putnam County but also in Tallahassee to get things done.
What would you hope to be remembered for accomplishing after serving in this office?
I hope to be remembered by being a good and faithful public servant to the people of Putnam County. I want to be known as the commissioner who always returned his phone calls and made sure there was accurate budgeting of tax dollars. Thereby ensuring they are spent wisely and receive the services they pay for.
