Clay County is aiming to join other Florida counties which have a local program for the purpose of purchasing conservation lands. In order to do so, they are asking voters to approve the funding for the program.
The referendum asks whether the county should issue bonds of up to $45 million, which would be paid off from a property tax of up to 0.2 mills. According to a feasibility study provided to county commissioners when they approved the ballot language, that millage rate would amount to $33 per year for the owner of a typical Clay County single-family home.
