Nor’easter triggers Weather Authority Alert Day

3-part storm shakes up weather before Christmas

Low pressure tracks over Florida with rain followed by a cold spell days before Christmas.

A storm system moves in with three parts that will shake up the weather before Christmas.

It includes a nor’easter, a soaking Gulf low-pressure system and a blast of cold behind a sweeping front.

First off are the winds. Monday had a blast of 47 mph gusts at Huguenot Park as a NE wind surge pushed in. Gusty winds along the coast will continue to reach 30 mph at times as winds blow through Tuesday. Waves have built to 9 feet in the nor’easter.

This precedes a separate area of low pressure developing in the Gulf which will set up a rain event beginning Monday evening and lasting most of Tuesday. The low will cross over north Florida resulting in a steady batch of moderate rain after midnight and becoming progressively heavier into Tuesday morning.

.

One to 2 inches of rain will cover many areas with higher totals across southern Georgia.

.

Some breaks in the rain are possible Tuesday afternoon, but dry air will hold off until Wednesday with on-and-off showers continuing into Tuesday evening with damp and chilly conditions.

As the low transitions offshore, wrap-around rain Wednesday morning will primarily target areas north of Nassau County and coastal Georgia.

.

A cold front sweeps in Wednesday, ending the rain and sending a temporary cold snap with temps down into the 30s and 40s at night into Thursday morning.

Rain clears out Wednesday with a breezy NW wind blowing in the cold.
Thursday morning is the coldest temps we will see during the Christmas week before warming into the mid 70s Christmas Day.
