Plant sale every local gardener should check out

Unique inexpensive plants and free advice at St. Johns County Agricultural center

St. Johns County Agricultural Extension office has two plant sales a year when you can get great deals on unique and native plants. (wjxt)

Spring is the time to get gardening and the perfect weather this weekend is good timing for a plant sale at the St. Johns County Agricultural Extension Service.

People turned out Friday to buy hundreds of plants, succulents, trees and house plants at prices well below what you would pay at nurseries.

The sale only happens twice a year and will be extended another day to Saturday, April 9, 2022.

Money raised supports the Florida Master Gardener Volunteer Program which provides free advice and training for anyone looking to become more effective in the garden.

All the plants are grown right in St. Johns County so you can be sure they will be accustomed to our climate zones, which is not always the case with many plants found in big box stores.

Most plants in 3-gallon pots are $10 including trees. Other unique plants are available with many costing as little as $5.

Varieties that caught my eye were several ginger species, various colored trumpet plants, uncommon Morning Glory bushes, Moringa Oliefer, Frangipani, Oakleaf Hydrangea and wall-mounted staghorn.

Be sure to stop by the St. Johns Agricultural office if you have questions about any problems in your yard or garden.

Nature trail next to plant sale provides inspiration to spruce up your yards. (wjxt)
