Flooding after heavy rain moves on

Rain clears with a chill moving in

High wind reports and flood damage reports Sunday morning include gusts to 50 mph, street flooding and sinkholes.

The powerful gale that moved through left behind up to 5 inches of rain and 40-50 mph wind gusts and now it has ended.

The heaviest rain came in around 3 a.m. with most areas receiving 2-4 inches of rain. Some locally heavy areas received 5 inches in Palatka, Palm Coast and Western Duval causing significant flooding. Sinkholes are reported near Doctor’s Lake with feet of water left on roads. Flood warnings are in effect until 12:30 PM.

Fragmented showers will fade away over most areas in NE FL with just a few brief wrap-around showers into the early afternoon as the low pressure system moves up the Carolina coast. The lack of instability in the atmosphere has ruled out any risk of severe thunderstorms or tornadoes.

Although quick passing light showers could linger into the afternoon the day will be hampered by windy NW winds and lowering temps in the 60s through the day.

Cloudy skies will make it feel quite chilly through the afternoon with temperatures falling instead of warming down into the 60s.

The Jags game will be dry but cloudy with temps falling into the mid 50s by the fourth quarter.

This week will be colder with dry weather and highs in the 50s & 60s. Frost is possible on Wednesday with several nights in the 30s.
