A layer of smoke already covers the River City.  From the smell, it’s part fireplace and fireworks.  The smoke will help the propagation of fog for some neighborhoods tonight with more to develop.  Patchy to dense fog Monday morning with chilly temperatures and scattered showers for the first week of the New Year.

Now:  Smoky, foggy and cool

Tonight:  Patchy to dense fog.

New Year’s Day:  A chilly start to the New Year with fog and patchy to areas of dense fog.  Lows in the upper 30s for SE GA, 30s to 40s for NE FL.  Mostly sunny skies to partly cloudy skies with afternoon highs in the low 60s for SE GA, mid to upper 60s for NE FL.  Clear and cold overnight with patchy frost for inland areas.  Wind W/SW 5-10 mph.

Hazards:  Patchy to areas of dense fog overnight, early Monday.

Looking ahead:  Scattered showers with storms possible late Wednesday, early Thursday and Saturday for the first week of the New Year.
