Ready.gov (Ready.gov)

Earthquakes can be quite terrifying, and if you don’t know the universal steps to protect yourself, it can be a lot scarier!

The first thing to look at is- where are you when you begin to feel the quake?

Well, if you’re inside- I’ve got the tips for you!

Drop, cover, and hold on!

Drop to the ground: This lowers your center of gravity which will keep you safer during a quake.

Take cover: Best to take cover under something stuck to the ground- that way you can hoist yourself down, and if the object you’re holding onto begins to jolt or sway around, you just follow it’s movements.

I’d say your best bet is to find your way under a table or a desk, to shield yourself.

Next, make an emergency kit.

Much like during a Hurricane or Tornado, an earthquake emergency kit is a crucial thing to have.

You never want to go outside during an earthquake if you can help it. Much like in a tornado, debris could fly around and nail you- causing great injuries.

Much like in a tornado, you’ll want to stay away from windows, and also things that could fall on you- anything loose and heavy throughout the house.

Earthquakes are quite scary- but when you have the tools to stay safe, you’ll have a peace of mind.
