Thursday’s Weather Authority Alert Day concluded around 2 p.m. this afternoon, but for some that was just the beginning of the cleanup.
Damage assessments and site surveys continue across areas of Northeast Florida following storm damage and viewer images of a funnel cloud. The damage across St. Johns County follows the radar signature and path of a storm that intensified across the St. Johns River and western Clay County.
While we wait for that report, we do know that locally it was a record-setting day for other spots in our viewing area.
Wind gusts not associated with storms set some records today. At JAX a record wind gust was recorded of 48 mph beating the 41 mph recorded in 2021.
Craig Airport also saw peak record wind of 42 mph, besting the old record of 35 mph also in 2021.
Gainesville, FL saw 42 mph and Alma, GA measured 38 mph. The old records were 34 in 1988 and 35 in 2021 respectively.
The storms also left appreciable rainfall across the area. The highest amount locally was in Fargo, GA at 6.08 inches. However, the record for today goes to Alma, GA receiving 2.72 inches, beating the old record of 1.59 inches in 1992.
