JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory in the Suwannee Valley where the max Heat Index could range between 108-110 degrees.
A Heat Advisory is issued when the heat index is at least 105 but less than 115 for less than three hours per day. Sunday, temperatures west of I-75 are forecasted to be in the upper 90s.
The Heat Index is what the temperature feels like to you when the humidity is combined with the air temperature.
When the body gets too hot, you sweat to cool off. If it’s too hot outside for sweat to evaporate, the body temperature suffers. Proper hydration is essential, as well as reducing hours spent outside and wearing light, loose-fitting clothing.
In Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, the heat index is expected to be above 100 over the next few days. Plan your outdoor activities accordingly.
