Slow storms bring big rain on Friday

Tropics heating up

.

JACKSONVILLE, FL – It will be a hot day on Friday reaching 94 but the 80% chance of afternoon storms quickly cuts the heat back.

Slow-moving storms will drop as much as an inch around Jax and surrounding areas this afternoon. The rain totals around Highway 301 will be lower as storms track eastward and become heavier by the time the rain reaches the I-95 corridor.

Rain fades away slowly tonight lasting as late as 9-10 p.m.

The weekend keeps rain around in the afternoons and highs in the low to mid-90s. A stronger sea breeze should push early afternoon pop-up coastal showers inland through the day and early evenings.

.

A strong Atlantic tropical wave may develop into a storm on a path toward Barbados this weekend. Its lifespan may be limited by the time it reaches the western Caribbean due to hostile dry air and is not a big concern for the U.S. at this point.
