Heat & storms bring another afternoon of soggy conditions

A rain break is coming up later

.

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop from the west this afternoon, impacting metro areas between 3 and 7 pm. While flash flooding is a bit less of a concern today due to the cell’s swifter pace.

A faster track to the coast should limit excessive rainfall to 1-2 inches. There’s a high chance of rain today, around 70-80%, with temperatures peaking near 94 degrees.

.

Rain should taper off by 8 pm, leading to dry but muggy conditions overnight. We’ll get a break from the rain on Thursday, as drier air moves in from the north, pushing showers toward central Florida.

However, this break will be short-lived, with increasing storms expected from Friday through the weekend.

Tropics are looking quiet for the next 5-9 days. None of the tropical waves are expected to develop.
