Columbia County expected to get hit with up to 12 inches of rain; Flash Flood Warning issued

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – Debby is expected to bring a huge amount of rain to Columbia County on Monday which triggered a Flash Flood Emergency until 7:45 p.m.

The passing storm produced strong thunderstorms across the area and as of 4:30 p.m. had already dumped between 8 and 12 inches of rain on the county.

Another 3 to 5 inches of rain are possible through the night.

There were reports of homes surrounded by water near Peacock Terrace due to flooding. The homes were only accessible by boat.

Columbia County officials expect conditions to worsen throughout the evening and night as the storm moves through.

Lake City residents Alissa Faulkner and Arieana Almario said they were dealing with power outages since early Monday morning. They said bad flooding is not common for the area.

“It’s different because it hasn’t really happened in a while but Florida people make it fun,” Faulkner said.

Almario shared the same sentiment.

“I will say that Florida people do make it fun, we entertain ourselves, I would say that,” Almario said.
