JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A storm prep talk wouldn’t be the same without talking about generators.
All I know is my generator is about 20 years old and starts like a mower. I have to pump up the tires to move it from the backyard shed to the front of my house. I have to fill it up with gas (which I have to go get with a wagon because I don’t want my car to stick of gas) and then gingerly pour it in without spilling it all over my driveway. Then, I have to plug it in without electrocuting myself. Oh, and I have to make sure it’s 20 feet away from the garage door, which means it’s practically in the street. All of that before I pull the cord to make sure it even starts.
There must be a better way... but, they’re so many options, right? Bottom line, I don’t know what type of generator is best for me and my household.
On Saturday’s streaming show, we’re going to talk about that and what is absolutely necessary to power with a generator (food, TVs, lights), portable versus inverter generators, small or large, and so much more.
We also talk about staying healthy in the heat all the time.
Hydration, limiting time outside and wearing light, loose-fitting clothing are a few tips. But what about our Senior population and their needs? I talked to a primary care physician about these items and more when it comes to keeping our seniors healthy and safe during one of the hottest summers on record.
Never leave your child alone in a car. This is the message we’re pushing as kids go back to school and routines change.
