JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – More rain is on the way and below normal highs topping off in the upper 80s. Thunderstorms are likely to develop this afternoon with localized flooding possible, especially in areas that received heavy downpours and accumulation on Thursday. Winds are whipping and could be gusty at times up to 20mph.
The weekend will be wet and not as hot, as well. Thankfully, the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico tropics are quiet for the next seven days.
Hazards: High Rip Current risk, localized flooding in urban areas.
From the National Weather Service in Jacksonville: The official rainfall total at the JAX Int’l Airport for Thursday 8/22 was 1.60 inches, with the NWS Jacksonville office just south of the Airport receiving 1.96 inches. The peak wind gust yesterday afternoon at 205 PM EDT was 44 mph from the North, this was not a daily record, since Tropical Storm Fay was moving through the metro area on 8-22-2008 with peak winds of 60 mph.
