Heavy downpours across the Jacksonville area flood cars, cause headaches during morning rush hour

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Rain poured down across Jacksonville and other parts of our viewing area Wednesday morning, and more is set to move in throughout the rest of the week and into next week.

Duval County was under a Flash Flood Warning until 11:08 a.m. and many roads in low-lying areas like San Marco and Downtown Jacksonville were already underwater by 8 a.m.

A Flood Advisory was in place for Duval and St. Johns counties until 12:30 p.m.

Be aware that as the rain moves through, roadways will continue to be dangerous.

Remember, if you spot flooding, go a different way.

Turn around, don’t drown!

A gauge at the University of North Florida reported 5.82 inches of rainfall and a gauge in the San Marco area reported 5.85 inches of rain just before 11 a.m.

Flooding was reported on Philips Highway, Bowden Road, Naldo Avenue, San Marco Boulevard and other streets throughout San Marco, Downtown Jacksonville, Englewood and more.

Forecast

Today’s high temperatures are in the mid-80s, and it will be breezy with the thunderstorms.

A stationary front will be hovering over our area for the next few days, rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue during this time. Gusty winds are associated with this system up to 25 mph.

80s are in the forecast for seven of the next seven days, but your feels-like temperatures make it feel much hotter than it actually is.

Tropics-wise, the National Hurricane Center is tracking 4 potential systems. No named storms yet, but we will let you know if/when they develop.
