Tropical Storm Gordon forms in the Atlantic, becomes 7th named storm of 2024 season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The National Hurricane Center named the seventh storm of the 2024 season, Tropical Storm Gordon, which was positioned approximately 2,452 miles away from Jacksonville as of Friday morning.

TS Gordon is moving west-northwestward at 12 mph with maximum sustained winds clocking in at 40 mph. This storm will likely be churning in the Atlantic for a while. TS Gordon was named after strengthening slightly and showing some center circulation. Movement is expected to continue to the west.

TS Gordon forms in the Eastern Atlantic

Another storm with little formation is AL94, which has a 20% chance of formation in the next 2-7 days. This area of low pressure is located over the northern Leeward Islands, but the NHC isn’t seeing much organization.

Tropical Weather Outlook

A third area of concern is located just a few hundred miles off the southeastern U.S. coastline. There’s a 30% chance of tropical formation over the next seven days. Movement of this low-pressure area is more towards the northwest.
