VIDEO: U.S. Coast Guard airlifts man, dog to safety in daring rescue amid Hurricane Helene

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard Air Station (USCG) Clearwater shared a video Friday of a jaw-dropping rescue of a man and his dog after the man’s 36-foot sailboat became disabled and began taking on water during Hurricane Helene.

The man was approximately 25 miles off Sanibel Island, the USCG said. The team was able to locate the man after he hailed them on Ch. 16, the USCG said.

The man and his dog were airlifted to safety and are both okay.

“The man & his dog were reportedly in good medical condition,” the USCG Southeast said in a post on X. “They were brought to Southwest Florida International Airport to meet with EMS. The vessel is adrift and disabled.”

Thank you, USCG!
