The latest from the National Hurricane Center shows Sara weakening as the storm moves further inland, and it’s expected to become a remnant low before it opens up into a trough over the southern portion of the Yucatan Peninsula tonight or on Monday.
At 10 a.m., Sara was moving toward the west-northwest near 6 mph and is 30 miles from Belize City. A turn northwestward or north-northwestward with some increase in forward speed is expected through tonight. On the forecast track, the center of Sara will move further inland over the Yucatan Peninsula today before it opens up into a trough by tonight or tomorrow.
Remnants of Sara will move into the Gulf of Mexico and aren’t expected to develop further. The low-pressure system will then collide with an approaching cold front from the southwest increasing our rain chances beginning early Wednesday morning.
