Jacksonville, Fl – Happy Winter Solstice! A blast of chilly air takes over today as brisk north-northwest winds sweep in behind a morning cold front. Even with plenty of sunshine, highs will only reach the mid 50s—about 10–15 degrees below what’s typical for this time of year.
Tonight:
High pressure settles in, bringing clear skies and a sharp drop in temperatures, especially inland. A Freeze Warning will cover inland areas of southeast Georgia and the Suwannee River Valley. Temperatures there will dip into the low 30s. Frost is expected by sunrise Sunday in western Nassau, Duval and Clay counties. Lows reach the mid 30s.
Closer to the St. Johns River and the coast, a northeasterly breeze will keep things a bit milder, with lows in the 40s and little to no frost.
Sunday & Beyond:
Tomorrow stays chilly, with highs in the 50s. Skies will stay mostly sunny inland but cloud up at the coast as NNE wind increases to 15 -20 mph with gusts to 30.
Frost is possible again Monday morning inland, but lows across the region should stay above 40 degrees by Monday night.
A slight warm-up begins Monday, though isolated coastal showers could sneak into northeast Florida for Christmas Eve and Christmas. Temperatures by the holiday will reach the low 70s and stay mild into next weekend.
