JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Cold weather buffs, get ready! Several frosty nights are ahead with a persistent chill that will stick around for days. Here’s what to expect as the temperature dips and arctic air settles in.
Friday’s cold front
This cold front isn’t bringing rain, as the humidity is too low to generate precipitation. Instead, it’s opening the gates for arctic air, making this weekend a cold one.
Freeze warnings & frost advisories
Freeze warning tonight in Baker County, Columbia County, and inland Georgia: there’s a freeze warning in effect for these areas. Meanwhile, in western Duval, there’s a frost advisory and it also includes areas west of I-95 in Nassau County. Coastal areas will experience slightly milder temperatures, in the 40s.
Weekend temperature forecast
As the weekend unfolds, Sunday morning in Jacksonville may see temperatures plunge to around 32 degrees. There’s a possibility that it will freeze in town and frost should cover areas along the beach. It’s going to be a cold weekend, that’s for sure!
Extended cold spell
Although Monday warms to near 70, that will be it for a while as temperatures might not reach 60 degrees for much of next week. This cold spell, driven by the arctic air mass, seems to have settled over the southeast and the eastern seaboard, promising to linger for a while.
