Clear skies, biting winds

Residents in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia woke up to bone-chilling temperatures on Wednesday, Jan. 8, as the region continues to feel the effects of an early-week cold front.

Morning lows dipped into the 20s and 30s across much of the area, with coastal winds making conditions feel even colder.

Despite clear skies dominating the forecast, brisk winds, especially along the coast, added an extra layer of discomfort. Gusts near 20 miles per hour are expected to persist throughout the day, compounding the already frigid conditions. Inland areas, though less windy, are still grappling with sub-freezing temperatures.

Daytime highs will struggle to reach the low 50s, offering little relief from the morning chill. Residents are advised to bundle up and take precautions to protect themselves, pets, and plants from the cold.

Temperatures are expected to climb slightly as the week progresses, but lows in the 30s will persist through Friday morning.

Rain returns Saturday

The next system to impact the area will arrive Saturday, bringing a 70% chance of rain. Showers are expected to begin in the morning and taper off by the afternoon.

While Saturday’s rain may provide a brief respite with slightly milder temperatures, the chill will return by Sunday morning, with another round of freezing lows.

What to expect next

As the weekend approaches, residents can expect sunny but cold conditions to dominate, punctuated by Saturday’s rain. This stretch of winter weather serves as a reminder to turn up the heat, light the fireplace, and stay prepared for the cold.
