JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Freezing temperatures covered Southern Georgia and parts of inland Florida Monday after a powerful winter storm rolled across the deep south bringing snow into Florida.
Viewers uploaded a steady stream of frosty photos to StormPins showing icy crystals covering cars, home rooftops and grass when temperatures dipped down into the mid 30s at the coast to upper 20s over inland areas.

Jacksonville International Airport's official low just missed a freeze at 33º for a second night in a row marking the coldest this season. Both Brunswick, GA and Cecil Field, FL dropped to 30. The deep freeze hit Gainesville and Ocala and even one site reported a freezing temperatures in the Everglades just south of Alligator Alley.
Hoarfrost formed as humid air flash froze after contacting freezing air near the ground. The drop quickly sucked the heat right out of water vapor creating ice crystals frozen in place like delicate feathers.
The cold arrived Friday and lasted all weekend with two inches of snow falling in the panhandle Florida town called Century.
A broader swath of snow cover fell from Texas to Louisiana and up into to Virginia on December 9th. Some accumulations included 6.5 inches at Kentwood, Louisiana, 7 inches at Bay Springs, Mississippi, 12 inches at Jacksonville, Alabama, 18 inches at Mountain City, Georgia, and 25 inches at Mt. Mitchell State Park, North Carolina.
