DCPS maintenance worker charged with 5 felonies related to the solicitation of a minor

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested a Duval County Public Schools district maintenance employee on five charges related to the solicitation of a minor.

Kevin Bryan Pearce, 58, was hired by the district in December 2017.

According to DCPS, Pearce did not report to a specific school but served as a carpenter who fulfilled work orders at schools as needed.

The district said it is monitoring the criminal process closely and is conducting a professional standards investigation in addition to the criminal proceedings.

It also said if or when Pearce is released from custody, they will be assigned a role with no student contact pending the outcome of both the criminal and district investigations.

The five felonies Pearce is facing are:

  • Coerce Commercial Sexual Activity of an adult for human trafficking (1st-degree felony)
  • Travel to meet after using a computer to seduce/solicit/lure a child (2nd-degree felony)
  • Solicitation of a child via computer to engage in sexual conduct (3rd-degree felony)
  • Transmission of material harmful to a minor by electronic device or equipment (3rd-degree felony)
  • Unlawful use of a two-way communication device (3rd-degree felony)
