As e-bikes and e-scooters surge in popularity, AAA – The Auto Club Group is launching its new “E-Ride Ready” campaign to help parents better understand the risks associated with these fast-moving devices and take steps to prevent serious injuries.
People who live in St. Augustine Beach will have the chance to share how they feel about e-bikes being used around the city during a special town hall at 6 p.m. Thursday at City Hall (2200 A1A South).
Legislation moving through the Florida Capitol would create new guardrails for electric bike riders, a move that comes as Wolfson Children’s Hospital reported 19 cases in January alone involving children injured while riding e-bikes.
St. Johns County Sheriff Robert Hardwick is taking action to improve safety for young e-bike riders. After recent injuries involving children on e-bikes, Hardwick is drafting legislation to update Florida’s e-bike laws.
