JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man wanted in connection with a deadly Westside shooting earlier Wednesday was shot and killed by Jacksonville police after he opened fire on officers attempting to arrest him in Julington Creek, JSO said.

Police said the man, who was not identified and had an outstanding warrant for theft, was a person of interest in the Wednesday morning shooting that left a woman dead and a man injured.

JSO tracked the suspect to Julington Creek and blocked in his vehicle around 1 p.m. to try to arrest him.

The suspect “attempted to defeat that block but failed,” according to JSO, and instead, pointed the gun at officers and shot at them at least one time.

Five officers returned fire on the man, killing him, JSO said.

JSO says no officers were injured.

This is an ongoing investigation.
