Multiple traffic incidents are tied to the IRONMAN Jacksonville Triathlon on May 16, prompting responses by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, including one in which an officer was injured, according to crash reports.

St. Johns County commissioners are weighing what happens next after the first-ever IRONMAN Jacksonville triathlon caused major traffic delays in parts of Ponte Vedra and Nocatee over the weekend.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it arrested a suspected drunk driver who sped through the IRONMAN Jacksonville race near Five Points on Saturday, narrowly missing runners and bicyclists before officers stopped the vehicle. No one was injured.

According to numbers released Monday by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, nearly 60 EMS calls were made during the weekend’s IRONMAN Jacksonville event in Duval and St. Johns counties.
