The USS Cooperstown departed Naval Station Mayport Monday morning, joining a growing list of Jacksonville-based ships currently supporting operations overseas.

The Navy has commissioned the USS Cooperstown, named for the New York state village where the Baseball Hall of Fame is located and honoring the 70 members who served in the military during wartime.

The pre-commissioned USS Cooperstown arrived Sunday morning ahead of possibly deploying early next year.
